The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At a Relay, teams of people camp out at local high schools, parks, or fairgrounds and take turns walking or running around the track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Cancer never sleeps, and for this reason Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.
Our team “The 3 C’s and Then Some” started Relaying in 2007 after we lost an amazing person in our lives to cancer. On September 23, 2006, Evelyn B. Wilson, mother, daughter, grandmother and friend, was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. On January 13, 2007, after a painful battle, the cancer took her from us. Our first year of Relay was the year we decided to fight back. Cancer has affected each of us differently.
There are many people affected physically, and emotionally every year by cancer. Our team has been affected in every way imaginable: Physically, emotionally, spiritually, completely and entirely. Teams from all over the world gather to “Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back”. We are one of those teams, but we are more than a team. We are a family, dedicated to the fight against cancer, the fight against the pain and suffering. We are a team and a family committed to finding a cure for a disease that has taken so many lives and affected so many more.
Together we are raising awareness within our community, donating our time and our hearts to something we believe in. Our team has joined together to raise money to benefit the American Cancer Society for cancer research in hopes of finding a cure. “Shooting for a Cure – Cupid’s Dinner Dance” is an annual fundraiser put together to do just that. It is a way to raise money for the American Cancer Society, to remember those lost, celebrate those fighting and to honor those cured. The Dinner Dance is an event to remember with food, fun, entertainment and prizes to be won! It is positive way to have fun and raise awareness for a cause worth fighting.
Every donation gets us one step closer to a cure for cancer. Every penny, dime, and dollar gets us closer to ending the battle against this disease that has taken over so many lives. Together, we can put an end to the pain and sorrow caused by cancer, and together we can fight back.
